Owner and Head Teacher - Julie Stephens (BA, Hons in Early Years, Montessori Early Childhood Teaching Diploma, with Distinctions)

Julie has been an Early Years teacher for more than twenty years and teaching has always been a lifelong passion. Since completing her Montessori Diploma and more recently a degree in Early Years, she has had the most amazing opportunities to teach within Montessori settings in the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong and here in Berkshire. She also spent ten years as Reception Class teacher in an International School in Oslo, following the UK EYFS curriculum and at Knowl Hill Cof E Primary, where she helped secure an outstanding OFSTED report (http://bit.ly/2Cmv7Ob) in March 2017.

Julie continues to be actively involved with children’s development whilst instilling a lifelong love for learning within them. She firmly believes that working closely together as a team only benefits the children as they embark on their school journey. Our setting, Popel’s Hall, has close associations with St Mary’s Church and Julie believes that it is important to teach children basic values, such as respect, kindness, honesty, courage, perseverance, self-discipline, compassion and generosity. She believes that instilling such values is imperative in order to lay the foundations for the children to become good citizens.

Julie also recognises the importance of strong connections within the community and those who live within it, and we look out for and support our elderly neighbours and they, in return, enjoy the energy the children bring into their lives on a daily basis.

Her experiences abroad have given Julie a deep insight into many cultures, languages and religions, and she loves teaching the children about the wider world in a variety of fun ways. She has taught children from every continent and has huge depth of experience when teaching children who have English as an additional language.

She recognises that this is such an important time in children’s life. Her dedication and passion for installing a life long love for learning in children and supporting parents is evident as she remains in contact with many previous students and parents who have found her through social media!

When not working, Julie loves spending time with her close-knit family. Two of her children have completed their degrees and joined the grown-up world whilst her youngest son is currently studying for his A’ levels.
